The Battle of Naboo

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Here we have the new LEGO Star Wars set, The Battle of Naboo.

I quite like this set for the incredible detail and the total of twelve minifigures included. That’s quite a lot of minifigures for a set of this size. There is a Jar Jar Binks minifigure, one Gungan soldier, two Droid Pilots and eight realistic-looking Battle Droids! Included in The Battle of Naboo are a variety of weapons to arm your minifigures with.

The Trade Federation troop carrier itself measures 25cm long and 10cm tall and provides the perfect transport for the Droid Pilots and Battle Droids.

This set makes the perfect addition to any LEGO Star Wars fan’s collection!

LEGO Harry Potter: The Burrow

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

The Burrow is one of the new range of LEGO Harry Potter sets.

I like this set. There’s a lot to it. The Burrow, as you may know if you’re a Harry Potter fan, is the home of the Weasleys. In this set, LEGO have done a fantastic job on the structure of the house. It looks so realistic and I love the whole colour scheme. The chocolate and red go together quite nicely, as does the blue windows.

There are so many little, but effective, details inside the house too, such as an oven with a stove, a sink and a drawer with knives and forks. I also like the fact that LEGO have added in a small swamp, which adds to the feel of the set.

There are six minifigures included (Harry Potter, Molly Weasley, Arthur Weasley, Ginny Weasley, Fenrir Greyback, and Bellatrix Lestrange), as well as a frog, pig, and two owl animal minifigures.

This set will be adored by Harry Potter and LEGO fans alike as there is so much to it.

LEGO City Airport

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

LEGO City Airport is a recent addition to the LEGO City theme released this year. Mentioned on Sky News recently as the most popular toy this Christmas, this set is sure to be a hit amongst LEGO fans.

Let’s start with the jet plane. It features a brilliant red and white colour scheme with a white logo on the rear tail wing. The plane itself is huge, measuring over 50cm long and 17cm tall. There is also a flight of steps leading up to the aircraft to board your passengers.

There are revolving doors leading into the airport terminal which has a cafe indoors for your minifgures to relax before boarding their flight, an x-ray machine with security checkpoint and a ticket desk.

There is a control tower for one of your airport staff to observe the flights coming in and out of your airport and a baggage cart to take your passengers luggage onto the plane.

Be sure to pick up a set this Christmas. Keep building!

Von Nebula

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Von Nebula (7145)With the release of the new Hero Factory theme, I decided to review my favourite of these sets…the evil villain, Von Nebula.

Von Nebula is the leader of the Villains. Featuring spikey armour on his shoulders, and a fearsome staff, this model really does look the part. It is pretty well built and sturdy. The only thing that lets that down is the neck, which can be modified by using a blue +/0 peg in the second + hole and transferring the head to the second peg. Annoying I know, but it is possible to fix the problem.

The overall model itself looks amazing. Von Nebula is a fantastic black and blue combination which suits the character well. Standing over 22cm tall, he towers above the Heroes (and the other Villains for that matter).

Finally, the blades on the staff spin, creating a weapon fit for the leader of the Villains.

LEGO City: Farm

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

LEGO City 7637: FarmThe LEGO City Farm (7637), released on 2009, is the perfect addition to your LEGO city to give things a more “rural” feel.

Consisting of a barn, silo, tractor and cow shed, this set is great for all your city’s farming needs. Let’s start with the barn.

The barn can be used to store your hay bail bricks in. There’s even a ladder to reach the hayloft. This red-roofed building is the perfect storage facility for your farm.

Next there’s the cow shed. The cow shed has all the accessories needed to feed and milk the 2 cow minifigures that come with the set.

The silo is a great place to store your grain. You can empty it to be taken to the market.

The bright blue tractor is wonderful and includes a trailer to transport your produce.

The set comes with 3 minifigures (farmer, girl and farmhand) and a cat, mouse, 2 cows and a dog.

LEGO 6755: Sheriff’s Lock-Up

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

LEGO System: Sheriff's Lock-UpLEGO System: Sheriff’s Lock-Up (6755) was released in 1996 as a Wild West themed set, featuring 4  minifigs (three cowboys, one bandit) with a Sheriff’s office and a jail cell to imprison the bandit minifig included in the set.

This set featured a lot of detail, including a white horse for a cowboy minifig to ride, a total of 7 weapons to equip them minifigs with for added playability, and lots of small details like printed/stickered pieces for playing cards, dynamite, a “Wanted” poster, windows and a safe.

Now let’s look at the Sheriff’s office. The building itself looks amazing when built, featuring a porch on the outside with railings, nicely detailed windows looking into the cosy little office on the inside with a chair, desk, and safe. The Sheriff sign on top of the roof finishes off the building nicely.

Next there’s the Jail. This cramped cell, perfect for holding criminals, fits in well with the rest of the set with a barred door on the front to keep the bandit securely imprisoned inside and a small window fitted into the back of the cell. Also there’s a watchtower on top of the cell for a cowboy to keep look-out for bandits.

The minifigs included in the set are very nice on the front with jacket detail on the torso pieces. The bandit even has hairs on his chest and a neckchief. The back of the minifigs are quite plain, but that was normal for minifigs of this period.

Sheriff’s Lock-up is made up of 170 pieces, which doesn’t seem like a lot, but it is an enjoyable set to build and has maximum playability with plenty of nice detail.
