LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

legoharrypotterThis March there is a surprise in store for all Harry Potter fans….the release of the new LEGO Harry Potter video game!  Gameplay is much the same as the previous LEGO titles (LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Batman, LEGO Indiana Jones) emphasising collecting. You also have the ability to cast spells, although few are available at the start of the game. You unlock more spells as the game progresses. Most characters can use the windgardium leviosa spell, enabling characters to lift and arrange bricks.

Potion-making is another feature of the game. This can help the player complete levels, or if they are created incorrectly, can have adverse effects, such as turning the player into a frog.

LEGO Harry Potter has over 100 playable characters, including all your favourites (Harry, Ron, Hermione, Professor Quirrel and Fang).

Certain players have different abilities. Ron and Hermione aren’t good Broomstick riders so when they jump on a broom they sometimes swirl or go up and down.

This latest addition to the LEGO video games is due to be released on 26th March 2010, along with six new sets (5 re-releases and 1 new set) to coincide. Being a big fan of the Harry Potter books, I will be certain to add this game to my collection.

LEGO are set to release a new multiplayer online game (MMOG) in 2010 which will allow the player to design their own minifigure, play by guiding your created minifig through an ever evolving assortment of vitual worlds, build within the virtual space, and socialize with other LEGO fans from all over the world.

The game features an epic storyline about the origins of LEGO Universe and the minifigs that inhabit it. Minifigs can team up together to complete quests which will uncover new game zones, more building opportunities and undiscovered creative challenges!

Players are able to obtain more bricks to build with by completing challenges, defeating enemies, gathering goods, discovering treasures, and unlocking secrets within the game. You will be able to make your own bricks using Plastic (which will be the game’s currency).

LEGO Universe is set to feature play themes from LEGO sets, past and present, as well as entirely new figures and storylines. You will also be able to create your own original figures.

Players will be able to communicate with each other in game. There are also parental control features which will allow parents to control the amount of communication their children will be allowed within the game.

There is no actual release date so far, but LEGO Universe looks like a game not to be missed. I’m certainly looking forward to owning my own copy!

Check out the LEGO Universe website for a more detailed description.
